PTSB acquisition of Ulster Bank branch locations FAQs

We have compiled some Frequently Asked Questions below that provide information about the 25 branch locations we have acquired from Ulster Bank, when they will close for works and when they will re-open as a PTSB branch.

It’s important to note if you are an Ulster Bank customer and your local branch location has been acquired by PTSB that Current Accounts, Deposit/Savings Accounts, Credit Cards, personal loans or any other transactional products, will not transfer to PTSB. Customers are required to take action and find a new provider.

When did PTSB acquire the 25 former Ulster Bank branch locations?

PTSB acquired the first 12 Ulster Bank branches on 7 January 2023 and the remaining 13 branch locations on the 14 January 2023. Click here for a full list of the 25 branches acquired, along with when they will re-open as a PTSB branch.

How long will my local branch be closed while it is being refurbished as a PTSB branch?

What alternatives are available to me while my local branch is closed for refurbishments?

We're committed to supporting customers as we transition the former 25 Ulster Bank branch locations to PTSB branches. While we’re completing refurbishment works to transform the branches, our Open24 internet and telephone banking service continues to be available. My Ulster Bank branch has been acquired by PTSB. Can I leave my Ulster Bank Current Account as is or do I need to switch?

It is important to note that your Current Account will not automatically transfer to PTSB and as Ulster Bank are exiting the Irish market, you will need to take action to switch your Current Account. I am an Ulster Bank customer. Will I be able to transact on my Ulster Bank account at one of the 25 branch locations which PTSB acquired?

Once PTSB re-opens the 25 branch locations as PTSB branches, only PTSB accounts can be transacted on in those locations.

As Ulster Bank are exiting the Irish market, it is important for you to take action to switch account types such as Current Accounts, Savings / Deposit Accounts, Overdrafts and Credit Cards. When the 25 branch locations re-open as PTSB branches, what will the opening hours be?

Once re-opened as PTSB branches, the opening hours for the 25 branches will be in line with our standard branch opening hours. Our standard branch opening hours are from 10.00 am – 5.00 pm, Monday to Friday*, including lunch hours. Cash desks in full-service branches are open from 10.00 am – 3.00 pm, Monday to Friday*. Does PTSB operate branches in Northern Ireland or do they have an associated sister bank in the North?

PTSB currently operates in the Republic of Ireland and at present has no affiliation to any other banks in Northern Ireland.

Can I close my Ulster Bank account in the PTSB branch?

No, only PTSB accounts can be facilitated at PTSB branches. Please contact Ulster Bank should you have any queries regarding closing your Ulster Bank accounts.

What is the daily limit of cash I can withdraw at a PTSB branch?

The maximum amount that can be withdrawn, without prior notice, at a branch location with a cash desk facility is €5000 per day. If you wish to withdraw more than this amount then 24 hours’ notice needs to be given. For a listing of our branches which operate cash desks, please click here.

Customers can also withdraw up to €1500 per day using the Self-Service Banking Machines on site and an additional €700 per day using an external ATM.

I’m a business customer. Does PTSB offer an express business lodgement facility within branches during business hours?

Our Community (cash desk) branches offer a facility whereby you can drop off a business lodgement which will be processed by staff later in the day. For a listing of our branches which operate cash desks, please click here.

All our branch locations have Self-Service Banking Machines on site where customers can make lodgements during business hours.
